WOMENS HEALTH

In addition to the many services we provide to the general population, the therapists at Foothills Physical Therapy, P.C. also act as a resource for women throughout the lifespan, offering valuable education and treatment for a multitude of issues specific to this group. The field of women's health can be complex and presents unique challenges to the caregiver.  We focus on the restoration and promotion of wellness, and we achieve this by working closely with each individual to ensure personal goals are discussed and treatment programs are customized.
We welcome the opportunity to participate in the enhancement of health for women of all ages.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS AT EVERY STAGE IN LIFE

Physical therapy has much to offer the individual female. Specific populations would benefit in the following ways:

The Adolescent Female

Good exercise and posture habits should start early.
The young athlete has special needs as she develops

The Childbearing Woman

Physical therapy can help address musculoskeletal complications related
to pregnancy, which may include:

        Low back pain

        Carpal tunnel syndrome

Sacroiliac joint, pubic symphysis, rib and other spinal or peripheral joint disorders

        Postural issues

        Pelvic floor dysfunction

        Headaches

We can also provide advice on prenatal exercise programs,
including education on pelvic floor exercises.

The Postpartum Mother

The new mother faces many different challenges, and maintaining her own well being is essential to managing in her new role. Our staff can assist in the following ways:

Teach appropriate exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor and decrease
        postpartum incontinence

Provide education on lifting techniques and feeding postures to help prevent
        recurrent strain

        Prescribe post-caesarean abdominal exercises

Manage neck and back pain, headaches, and symptoms of thoracic outlet
syndrome that may arise as she cares for her child

Advise on returning to regular exercise routines

The Senior Woman

This population presents with different issues. As we encourage women to stay active as they age, physical therapy can play an integral part in promoting wellness in this group. In addition to providing general fitness information, we also:

Treat headaches and muscle soreness often associated with menopause
        and the aging process.

Customize therapeutic exercise routines to aid in the prevention and
        management of osteoporosis

Provide intervention for those presenting with musculoskeletal problems,
such as a “frozen shoulder” (or idiopathic adhesive capsulitis), that may be
related to hormonal changes and imbalances

Address problems of incontinence in the older female through pelvic floor
        retraining
